Default Vodafone USB Modem

Having been frustrated by variable and expensive hotel wireless services I thought I would look in to getting a datacard for my Mac.

I then found the Vodafone USB Broadband Modem. I am actually using it for this session and it is excellent - even on old GPRS the speed is consistent and good.

I never looked at these before as I thought they would be prohibitively expensive. However at £25 plus VAT per month for 'unlimited' (actually 3gb fair usage imposed for repeated transgressions) it is pretty good value.

It has HSDPA, 3g and 2g supported, triband. Expensive if you travel a lot although most sensible countries have an £8.50 a day limit on cost.

Sorry for the advert but a sensible bit of kit and far cheaper than using your mobile as a modem.

I walked in off the street to a Vodafone shop after I saw it on the website. I was so impressed with the package I didn't even try and haggle!

I think it used to be a 18month contract and it was a straight 12month contract with free modem.

Since reading your post, I've considered switching my broadband to a 3G one, seeing as it doesn't get too much use at home (I may even take the risk of the "free" sky/talk talk/orange broadband offers!).

What is the speed like?

Are there any restrictions that you know of?

Any idea if it would be possible to play online games through it?

I've got the Voda BB - got to say "brilliant". 1 outage since I've had it. Phone call to Customer Services, who were human, English and told me when it would be back on.

£25 inc line rental and phone package. Constantly getting upwards of 6.5Meg too... and I'm not overly close to the exchange.....

Well worth a look

I think Rannoch means the 3G version though, getting 6.5Meg over that would be impressive!
