Default Play.com security confirmation?

Just had this email from Play:

Thank you for your recent order with Play.com.

At Play.com, we value your custom and take your online security very
seriously. With this in mind we have an additional security check in
place.

To perform this check we ask that you contact our Customer Support Team on
0845 800 1020 ( UK only ) or +44 (0)1534 877 595 ( outside UK ). Our
opening hours are 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 5pm on Saturday and
Sunday. Please have the card registered on the account to hand so that we
can process your order as quickly as possible.

Please note that due this is a security measure and as such any orders
will be cancelled after 14 days if we do not receive any correspondence
from you in relation to this matter.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you
and thank you for your patience and valued custom.

.................smells like a scam, but the number checked out. Anybody else had this?

mmm smells very dodgy to me, why would they need your cc card to verify your details? They could do that from your email addy n login password.

Nope, This happened to me a few months ago. As far as I am aware this was not a scam. I checked this out on their website. As far as I was aware it's in their FAQ section. And the number they gave out on the e-mail matched the one on their website. Put it this way, I have had no false transactions since.

Cancel the order, and re-order, they shouldnt be checking anything if your account details are up to date

Look at the bottom of play.com's website, find that the number for their helpdesk is the same as that above you can also click on helpdesk if that helps

I have heard them do this for high value orders, often for consoles and more expensive items.

I've seen this around a few forums now and it's genuine.

As above it's probably because you've ordered a higher value item.
