Waiting on the phone for 360 Support
5 mins in. Worried that the the "please remain on the line..." recorded message is done by a woman with a foreign accent. Doesn't bode well when/if I get through to speak to someone about returning my 360!
How long do people usually have to wait on the phone?!
6 mins now....

Microsoft Denies Forza 2 Causing 'Major' 360 Issues
>> From 1UP.com - Your home for PC video games PS2 Xbox 360 PSP DS GBA PS3 WII cheats previews reviews boards blogs:This weekend, posts appeared alleging someone at Microsoft was deleting threads on the official Forza 2 forums. The offending thread was reportedly full of gamers claiming Forza Motorsport 2 was causing major problems with Xbox 360s. Forza 2 Community Manager Che Chou responded to the accusations in his Weekly Pitpass Report:
"We've gone and tested Forza 2 extensively against the hardware and have confirmed that the game itself does not brick Xbox 360 consoles. Although it might seem like the number of instances is high, especially if you go by forum reactions, it's actually a very small percentage that it's happening to and we acknowledge that it's very frustrating. In other words, there isn't really a software solution here.
...As for the recent controversy over a 'deleted' forum thread discussing Forza 2 and hardware freezing, the truth is that I moved it to a moderator's section for preservation and investigation. It has not been deleted (and I can easily prove it). The thread no longer served a real productive purpose other than as an excuse for folks to violate FM.net's terms of service with ad hominem attacks. However, thanks to the thread, we are acutely aware that it is a very real issue with a small percentage of our community but a problem nonetheless."

Got through to 'Andrew' after 19 mins waiting.
Been told to try a special button combo to perform maintenance to the harddrive.
Go to system - memory - device options then press X X LB RB X X
Then phone him back when or if it doesn't work...

Pete, I'm at work so couldn't do it whilst he waited, otherwise he would have. I wasn't expecting him to ask me to do anything with the console so thought I'd phone during work time rather than at home
Bob, Is it? Don't know, never done it before!
If it doesn't work I'm just gonna say I get the rings of death and be done with it!

Sounds like you got the standard patter, just told them that I'd already done it I only occasionally got the red lights, but eventually it froze on every boot.

Might give that a go myself - apparently one of the biggest culprits of filling the cache is Oblivion - the game I was playing before Forza 2, and there's some reason/bug why the cache doesnt empty Oblivion out of it...

eitherway, it certainly wont do any harm in clearing the cache every now and then, no different than defragging your pc

Never cleared the cache before now - first time since getting the 360!
Dunno if its made much difference though, will just have to wait and see if the no. of freeze's comes down.
Can't do the Oblivion thing now, sold the game a couple of weeks ago...

Well I popped home and did the 'fix'
Tried Forza 2 out, managed 6 laps and set a flapping good time so exited to make sure it was recorded. Then ran out of time cause I had to get back to work.
Proper testing tonight before I go out I think!
