Default Anybody else on talktalk - Absolutely pitiful connection speeds

I recently signed up to talk talk and my internet connection is absolutely rubbish. I used to get between 2-4 Megabytes on my last ISP all the time and now I am lucky to get 0.5.

Absolutely gutted - Does anyone know how hard it is to cancel the whole thing within the first month?

Cheers

I'll agree with all the above.
My computer tells me I'm running at 576.0kbps but I'm about 3 miles from the exchange, don't know if that's good or not?
Appalling service and the Customer Service is utter bollox.
Thank the Lord I've only got 6 months left on the contract and then I'm cancelling the broadband and my O2 mobile ( which is run by Carphone Warehouse).
They will NEVER EVER get my custom again.

Wait a month as the connection is often really bad to start with but gets better after the first month.

Just to add, that my email went down for 2 days last week and it cost me about £10 in phone calls to the 'technical dept'.
I had to phone about 5 times to get the correct diagnosis and fix and then all the people I spoke to were in India and I could hardly understand them.

Dave,
Your problems are on the way......I can see them coming round the corner....they'll be with you shortly

I have just realised I can get out within the first month and not have to pay their cancellation fees, but who do I go to instead?

Are Virgin Media nay good - for both their cable and ADSL services?

Arghhh I have been thorugh this once and now it looks like I will have to go through this all again!!!

I'm with Dave, so far so good.

Can't comment on speed vs. other suppliers but when I was LLU my connection speed doubled, but I'm still only getting 1M (I'm 5 miles from the exchange)

I know that TT have a plan to roll out LLU in other exchanges. Maybe you've not been done yet? Maybe this will fix it.

There are someuse threads about how to check speed on here if you search (just use Talktalk IIRC)

I had a few problems initially with TT, was only getting approx 2MB.
Got a letter about 3 weeks after install saying that there may be a few issue as they were upgrading the lines.

Turned out I lost all connetions randomly during 1 day, ever since I've been getting a constant 4.5MB connection.

I had this with the speed when my local exchange went LLU. Speed was pants, connection up and down, so i tried to cancel and had to wait until 12 months after i had taken up the service or pay cancellation charges.

Unfortunately as the broadband is given away as "free" they dont have to give any sort of guaranteed service level with it.

We signed with TT when moving into a new house. Agreed to pay for a wireless hub, debited against credit card and then they would connect us - hub which never turned up so we rang them to find out what was happening with both the hub and connection.

They said they could not find us on their system, and we did not have an account with them - so they couldn't look us up to assist. However they had debited us the £50 - £60 for the hub !!

No refund - as they claimed no account and couldn't trace us at all !

I thik we got off lightly - because if they had a record for us, and a 12month contract - we could have been paying for no service for min 12 months !!
