Default Recommend me a wireless extender

As above basically please folks...

I want to extand the wireless network downstairs to incorporate the Wii I'm about to buy and help with connectivity for the laptops and my wifes DS Lite.

Ideas / recommendations would be welcome cheers

some possible solutions below, going from free to expensive

Reposition the router

New higher gain ariels for the same router

does the router support WDS? Could link 2 routers that way (never tried this in real life)

Home plug ethernet kit which links to either a wireless access point or another router (which would need to support DHCP relay or disabling), giving in effect 2 wireless points which you could connect to.

Best home plug kits I believe be these below

Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | Devolo Homeplug AV dLAN 200 AV Starter Kit

IIRC they would give around a 60M/Bit backbone between points

even better link would of course be Cat5e between points, but this may not be practical

Well I thought about running a CAT5 down the stairs. The existing Negear 834DG does get a signal downstairs (sitrs at the top of the staircase) but I want a more reliable signal.

I *think* you can get a netgear product that acts in bridging mode - i don't mind running a CAT 5 cable down stairs (the ADSL point is in the front bedroom) but I figured if you don't have to...

I ran some tests on some netgear poweline adapters recently results below. I know now you can get flat cat5e and cat6 cables now but not sure how easy this would be going down stairs, for online gaming I'd ideally use wired if I could

Standard Ethernet Connection: Draytek 2600G Router

2 Devices connected using Cat 5e Ethernet cable to a switch
Size of file
4,571,424 KB
Time For Wired
7 miniutes 12 seconds
average network utilisation 92-94% of LAN adapter

that looks interesting, but do you need a particular Linksys router in the first place

see link below

Model Number with Compatible Firmware Version
 •
Linksys WRT54G 2.02.2
Linksys WAP54G 2.07
 • Linksys WRT54GS 2.07.1
Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | Linksys WRE54G 54Mbps Wireless G Range Expander

after reading the reviews people have had it working with other routers also

I've had nothing but trouble with Linksys stuff though especially the wireless part od thier routers

dabs.com - NetGear 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender Kit (WGXB102)

Have put one of these in for a director at my place and they worked a treat (only works if you're on the same ring main as the router)
