Default Internet / router issues - help please!

Guys, I'm having some internet issues- in brief, laptop is connected to router via wifi, pc by cat5. Have noticed this week the pc internet connection slow considerably; laptop pulls in at circa 300k, pc the same file 3k.

have tried several times, both machines with the same file, and the pc is real slow.

i'm guessing i have a setting wrong somewhere- have defragged and done all the normal things one might try, but am now scratching my head....

any ideas?

Ok so net connection into house is ok, as lappy pulls data as expected.

So I would think its possibly the NIC in your PC? Onboard is it? Mine failed not long ago, similar problem with dataflow, except mine just killed the connection as soon as it started to dload anything. So had to buy a PCI NIC in the end. Borrow another NIC to test. I doubt its a software problem.
