Default A little excel Vlookup and Hlookup help

Im ok at Excel but im not pushing limits

Basically using Excel 2003, I have a 2 tab (page) spreadheet.

What im trying to do is to make the first page a series of lookups, ie cell a1 is a drop down list that draws its data from the second page/column1. Ie if it where computers, you would see such things as Dell, HP, IBM etc.

Then after you chose the manufacturer from column1 it would then narrow it down to a sub type of the first entry and display it in column2, Ie a1 is dell, a2 is then all the TYPES that dell make ie monitor, desktop, laptop etc, then the next column would be chosen from current selections.

For example

a1 would be Dell
b1 would make it a laptop, therefore
c1 would be all dell laptops
d1 would be the specific laptop and that would bring back the value of the laptop to work out its value ?

Is it easy to do ?

I'd suggest creating dependent lists and using the OFFSET or INDIRECT functions to validate your data and bring back the final result required.

Have a read here:
