Default A way around port throttling

Im having a bloody nightmare with tiscali - at approx 7.00pm to 11.00pm almost every day I cant connect to X-fire or gaming master servers the rest of surfing the net is fine but its really doing my head in

are there any ways round this? I spoke to them loads of time and get the same excuse "we sorting it out should be fine in 7 days"

AAAAARRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHH

was thinking of going onto Be unlimited or Zen - not sure

RC4 Encryption. It's a shared key stream cipher algorithm requiring a secure exchange of a shared key. The algorithm is used identically for encryption and decryption as the data stream is simply XORed with the generated key sequence. The algorithm is serial as it requires successive exchanges of state entries based on the key sequence. Hence implementations can be very computationally intensive.

It's just like WEP key system on your wireless router. You can use it to shield yourself from people like pipex etc when downloading torrents or anything else that is port throttled using their inbuilt detection system.

How you are going to implement it for gaming servers will require a bit of searching, but at least you now have the key search words

Scooby, change isp. You pay for what you get. I can recommend Zen.

may be a congestion factor at the exchange or their end. Net may be fine but what download speeds are you getting at that time. ISP's don't usually shape UDP gaming traffic as that isn't really an issue for them, it's the P2P, Newsfeed, DC++ etc that saps all the bandwidth up. Encryption may get around this but more technical ISP IIRC can now shape encrypted traffic. What ping times are you getting to these servers etc

well its weird as when its all working fine my ping sits happy at 30 but when i cant connect its random as when i run speedtest.net ping goes up to 47 - 150 and my DL speed drops from 2mb to like 1.1 mb (not sure on the true speed DL-ing of files of torrents etc)

I dont DL much really - very rare - I just use online gaming a lot

same happend again last night 7.10 ish got disconnected from x-fire and wouldnt reconnect (now I know when x-fire doesnt work it wont connect to BF2142)

its really annoying me - just after 11pm It connected again

this used to happen say once every 2 weeks but now its every other day

I've seen loads of complaints about this and Tiscali, so far everyone who has changed provider has had an improvement in their evening online gaming sessions. Seen this with GTR2 and MS Flight Sim

hmm you would have to check with Tiscali if you have a 12 month contract. Ask them to see if you can end your contract early, if they say no, constantly download all day all night, they will want to get rid of you ASAP

Sometimes, it depends on how their shaping is set up. Some use layer 7 application shaping, in which case it would catch the application regardless of port. If they are just shaping ports then yes this would improve it. Depends on ISP budget and how good their network dept is I suppose, though I do feel here that congestion is also an issue, either at the ISP or at the exchange, more likely the former. Some ISP's also have a naghty pipe that they can place users on which can strangle your connection to 60K/Byte etc

I am in a 12 month contract - but as is stands im not getting what im paying for so thats my argument with them - with regards to torrents like I say i dont DL anything really and x-fire and BF master server use there own ports so theres no way to change it

I know on say bit commet etc you can change the port but dont think these programs work like that
