Default USB sticks, will the capacity keep going up and up and the prices down and down?

Basically a lot of companies are selling USB stick compatible ICE units. If you could get a 30 GB memory stick you could store most of your music collection and plug it in. Saves having a glovebox full of CD's. Is this a realistic possibility in the future?

(dont have or want an i-pod)

yeah it is, Corsair already have a 16GB usb 2 stick for around 90 quid on dabs, So I reckon it will be in the next couple of years. And also I don`t think it will be long before you get head units with hdd`s as fujitsu have just released a hdd for the automotive market, mainly for GPS systems, but i`m sure someone will put one in a head unit. So you can just store all you music on there, and generate custom playlists etc.

On the question of a 16BG USB stick,i guess the speed of reading the data will also be a factor. Is it a case of the bigger the stick, the slower the access speed?

I would think that would become a factor when transfering vast amounts of data between computers, not reading cd quality music at 150Kbs.

I'm just waiting for a HU with hard-drive and wi-fi; I'm sure loads of people park close enough to their house to get a signal - sit in front of your PC transferring tunes and playlists etc. to your car

Well my JVC headunit takes SD cards - the only time I ever listen to a CD in it now is when I can't wait to get it back home to rip it to my computer. I've got 4 x 1Gb SD cards for the car, and considering what a pityful amount of money they are..

Definitely. I just bought an 8gb one for £45 (in America) to replace my £120 'State of the Art' 2gb one from 2 years ago.

Yep - would agree too. I've just got hold of a Sandisk 1Gb stick with full encryption and biometric (fingerprint) security for £15! Put on Portable Apps and you can have an entire OS with apps on a stick that will plug in and run on any Windows device :-) Easier than carrying a laptop everywhere!

I bought a HU last year with SD & USB options .. the SD part is fine, the USB, however is / was crap. It kept stuttering and jumping....

i,m not tempted to go down that route again.... however i,ve got my eye on 4.7gb of portable storage

I got the wife a Kenwood USB stereo, and bought a 4GB pen drive for it. At 192kbps, she has 50 albums on it...

Always played perfectly - although it does take about 40 seconds to scan the drive before playing at first start up.
