I need to gain access to a zip file my mum made a long time ago containing important family information...
Since my mum is no longer with us, I'm having trouble asking her for the password !!
Its her will, my dads Will and someother money type docs !! All .doc format so no pictures she wouldnt want me to see

i found a tool that used brute force to crack a zip file, and i cant remember how long it was going to take, but it was a very long time, so i gave up
i have been trying to find out the password for the updated files for my work CCTV system, but the chinese tech support is really dire and have not replied to any emails (buy cheap chinese DVR cards and pay the price i suppose!!!!)

it was one of the first ones i tried from a google search ?
i think i was lucky in that i knew the last previous password used in my case was 999999999, so i figured they might stick with just useing numbers

Can I ask what version the Winzip file was??? V9 Beta 1 had the first AES specification..
Because if it was 9+ I'm off to do some more research on how Winzip stores passwords in its AES application..
In a nutshell, that 6 figure password was very weak and 9 9's wouldn't have fared much better. But at least it gave you an indication that it was all numbers.. good work.

i have no idea how to tell which version of winzip was used?
i can give you a link to the zip file if you like
http://www.wave-p.com/dvr_download/6800_en_V7.4.0.1.zip
the site is very slow, not sure if this is because its based in china or not? but it is always slow for me 24/7 the download took nearly an hour last time.
i assume they release the password for the files on the BBS forum but i could never find anything that would translate the pages to english
