FTP connection syntax for internet explorer

Default FTP connection syntax for internet explorer

Cannot remember for the life of me the exact syntax you type into the address bar of Internet Explorer to connect to an ftp site with a user name and password.

Its something like ftp://123.456.789.123:userasswordort

Can someone correct the above to make it work please

Right at the end like this (port 21 is ftp)

ftp: // username : password @ 123.456.789.123 : 21

FTP uses two ports, TCP 20 and 21. 20 is FTP data, 21 is control.

Ahh, did not know that. I have only forwarded port 21 on my router to the ftp server. Still it seems to be working as the person connecting is getting the file (maybe they are in PASV mode).
