Anyone An Expert On Compaq Servers?
Basically I have an 1850R that keeps blue screening on me
I had W2003 Server on it fine but as it's not properly supported for this model with drivers etc, thought I would wipe and re-install with W2K for my home network as opposed to play. Now I can't get it to stop dying I've tried patching it all up & service packs and funny installs with service packs already applied and have tried to isolate various component errors such as HDD, memory etc but still it happens!
I haven't got the time/ability to work out precisely what is going on, so anyone want to set up and install a stable version of W2K Server on it for me? Discs provided of course. London/SE would be handy & ££ would exchange hands.

The IML log shows memory, NIC etc problems bit like the syslog
Go to start
All programs
HP system tools
Intergrated management log viewer
I'm not sure if that model of server has IML most of our server's are DL 560's.
Not sure if you can see it but ILM log is below.
Have you checked the system log for errors?

When you had 2003 on it did you get any event log errors? If 2003 worked fine could you not go back to that? Also what SP did you start at when installing 2K? Also did you have the latest Proliant Support Pack on it?

I've been building the bleeding things for 15 years now... maybe more.
You need the SmartStart CD to get things rolling properly. I think version 5.5 is the latest that will work with the 1850r. I may have a copy lying around somewhere.
Boot with that. Choose system erase (which TOTALLY wipes everything, so be sure you want to. By everything I mean all BIOS settings, array config, the clock. It becomes a virgin server). Reboot and follow the instructions for attended installation.
You'll need a floppy disk as a profile diskette (downloadable from Hp... hang on... link, link, link:
Software and Drivers - download Compaq SmartStart Server Profile Diskette, 1.00 A
The drivers for the Server are at:
Software and Drivers - ProLiant 1850R Compaq ProLiant 1850R Server, Microsoft Windows 2000
You NEED to the use the CSSD if you are just going to patch the Server and run the latest ones BEFORE any Windows patches.
I bet if you ran windows update and it asked if you wanted to replace a 3rd party driver - you ALWAYS answer no to this - use the HP / Compaq drivers on the Servers NOT the MS ones.
I hope this helps.
