It seems to be specualtion at the moment.
Microsoft have stated that live on pc will be free for basic online play but there might be a premium service with extra features where you can play against xbox owners on dedicated moderated servers with voice chat. Nothing definate yet though.
They know you can do it for free on pc now so they obviously cant start charging for it. How this will effect xbox live if at all remains to be seen, so mostly it seems to be speculation by the gaming media.
You never know though with sony trying it. Microsoft could possibly reduce the price if sony get theirs going properly. They might even make it free just to completely blow them away. Who knows.....fingers crossed.

Its already been announced that should you already have an Xbox Live account tied to your 360, you won’t need to pay anything extra if you wish to use it for PC gaming. Windows Games will cost you nothing as a current Gold member. If you don’t have a Gold account: the price is the same for a subscription as that on the 360.
In exactly the same way as the 360, there will be the free but not-as-good offering of Silver, or of course Gold, still priced the same.
This naturally means that your Achievements and Gamerscore are carried over, so any Vista games that feature Achievements will be added to your ‘Tag, and again carried back onto the 360 when you need it.

Which shop told you not to buy a Live subscription ?
