Default All my songs (itunes) are only playing the intro?

having reinstalled all my files after switching to a clean instal of vista i have just noticed that all my songs play the first couple of seconds only then repeat?

the files are still large enough to be a full song and songs i bought of itunes play normally - but all the others just loop over and over - even if i open then in media player and not itunes? any ideas?

Could be this new Digital Right management thing in Vista, stopping you from listening to illegal songs

More likely to be a bug in iTunes. It's well known that the current version of iTunes does not work at all well on Vista (doesn't work at all on 64bit). They are working fix / new version, but in typical Apple fashion, they are taking an age to it...

It won't even install on Vista 64bit, and Apple has a long list of bugs reported by hundreds of users when running on 32bit. Mostly they are centered around playback of protected music (which has nothing to do with the built in Vista drm), so that sounds like it might be Rhino's problem...

How?

I've tried it and it won't get past the installer. Apple themselves say it doesn't work as well.

Just noticed they've released a new version since I last tried it, (last week). So I'll give it another go. Their support site doesn't fill me with confidence though...

"iTunes remains unsupported on 64 bit editions of Windows, including Windows Vista and Windows XP x64"

Pretty pathetic considering that almost all processors being produced these days are now 64bit, and to be honest it doesn't really take much extra coding effort to make it compatible.

I think that's the one I tried. The installer wouldn't run, (reported that it wasn't a supported operating system and quit).

Ah missed that

Media player plays all my mp3s / wma ok after going to vista, so I very much doubt it's a drm bug, unless of course they were encoded with drm in the first place. If he did this then did a clean install of a new operating system, the drm wouldn;t match and so they wouldn't play.

Not really. There is an option in the import software (itunes and media player) to protect the music as it is imported from cds. If this was activated when you imported the cds, then they will have protection in them linking them to your old OS install. If that is the case, then the new OS install won't have the required license key to play them. It all depends on what options you used...

Of course the problem might be something completely different...
