Changing the header/footer in large numbers of word documents.
Hi Guys,
I have a folder at work where we keep product specifications in word and pdf format. In the footer on each of these documents are some industry logos, one of which keeps changing.
At the moment someone has to manually go through each word document, change the footer and re-pdf it. There are 500 specifications so it takes forever.
Does anyone know of a way to change all 500 document footers at once in Word or Acrobat (they are always the same on each document so when it changes they all have to change)
This could save me a week of manual work so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You could try experimenting with the Insert Field function in Word (in version 2000 anyway) - you insert a link to a graphic in the doument rather than the graphic itself, and then once you have been through all the docs inserting that link, all you need to do is change the graphic itself to update all the documents at once.
.......... I think!! Not tried it myself !!!
Here is the help screen text - decide for yourself - good luck!
Pete
Field codes: IncludePicture field
{ INCLUDEPICTURE "FileName" [Switches ] }
Inserts the specified graphic. To insert an INCLUDEPICTURE field, point to Picture on the Insert menu, click From File, click the arrow next to the Insert button, and then click Link to File.
Note The INCLUDEPICTURE field replaces the IMPORT field used in earlier versions of Word. If you open a document that contains IMPORT fields, they remain in the document and function correctly.
Instruction Explanation
"FileName" The name and location of the graphics file. If the location includes a long file name with spaces, enclose it in quotation marks. Replace single backslashes with double backslashes to specify the path, for example:
"C:\\Manual\\Art\\Art 22.bmp"
\c Converter Identifies the graphics filter you want to use. Use the file name of the graphics filter without the .flt file name extension; for example, type pictim32 for the Pictim32.flt filter.
\d Reduces the file size by not storing graphics data with the document.

Set it up in a style sheet (header/footer only) and copy from a master to slave in style organiser. This can be a multi document list.
