Default Taskbar Problem

I've accidentally done something to make by taskbar twice the normal depth (at least). I cannot seem to restore it to the usual size. I've tried dragging the top edge down but it won't have it. Any suggestions?

Right click on the task bar then untick lock taskbar then left click on the top edge and pull down to the size you want.

It looks like you have a seperator pulled down onto the second line of the task bar. You need to slide this back to the top line to fix it.

move your mouse over the top of the taskbar (the mouse will turn into an up and down arrow) - just keep the left mouse pressed while you see those up and down arrows and drag the bar back to the size you want it.

hope this makes sence

If he hasn't tried that one first, he'd be better to unplug the cable at the back and send it all back.

scoobyverysoon, who's scared of their computers?

the OP has a problem and us experts haven't worked it out, so it's not really mouse waving ignorance here.

another angle:

Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
Double-click TaskbarSizeMove.
Set the TaskbarSizeMove value to 0 to lock the taskbar or to 1 to unlock the taskbar, then click OK.

I might have learnt to stop waving the mouse around in the air, but this seems a bit too scary for me .

go into notepad and paste this in

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"TaskbarSizeMove"=dword:00000001

and then save the file as unlocktaskbar.reg (set the file filter to *.*, not *.txt)

then double click on it and click 'yes' when prompted.

I've sorted DG's problem out (he's my Dad and I just happened to be visiting yesterday ). His taskbar wasn't locked originally and he'd managed to do something strange to it so that I couldn't drag it back to the original size. I fiddled around, unchecked a few options and dragged a few bits around and finally got it back to normal. I then locked it so he can't do it again

Thanks for all your help anyway
