Default Convert Xvid to DVD?

As title, I have a couple of clips on my computer in Xvid format that I'd like to burn onto a DVD, but I need to convert them to a DVD format first. The only stuff I can find on the net is software around the $40-50 mark, and I really can't warrent that for a few minutes of clips! Total is about 40 mins of stuff, so too long for a "free trial"

Does anybody know of any other software that is either freeware or a darn site cheaper?

Don't really want to download the above software from a fileshare site as running .exe files from said places can be a bit iffy to say the least

Thanks

Not really what you're looking for but if your DVD player doesn't play them, you can get one for less than 30 quid that does.
Saves a lot of pain and processing time.

How do I burn as an Xvid though? Nero etc doen't want to know Also does the Xvid burn onto the DVD at the same file size? i.e. if a file was 100 MB as as an Xvid, you could fit that (roughly) 47 times onto a DVD-R?

Yes.
Burn in Nero as a data DVD.

Just add the avi files as you would any other data file. As long as you check the player will play the -R or +R disks you use.

Right, sorry to be thick here but just want to confirm a few things.

My DVD player is old and crap now, so thinking of getting one that will play Xvid files straight away as HankScorpio suggested.

Looking today I can pick a reasonable one up for about 60€ so no worries there. However, they all say they will play DivX files, but none said Xvid. Are these formats the same, so I'll be able to play Xvid on a Divx compatible machine?

Secondly if I just burn them in Nero as data files as suggested then how does the machine play them? Say I burn 6 files of 150M each, how does it know where to chapter etc or won't it? Will it still display a "title" page of them so I can select which one to play?

Sorry for the questions but I don't want to waste cash buying a player that won't do what I need it to!

Thanks

I've had no problems yet and I've watched loads.

You'll get an index of the files and folders on there. You won't get chapters but mine (JVC) jumps 5 mins on FF to next chapter.

If it's stuff you've made, why not stick some on a disk and take it down the shops?

If you've got a serious habit, consider a media player like these:

should play them fine.

Sees them as individual files and lists them as such. You have to play each file in turn. Or you could use a program to join the files I guess and then burn the DVD.
