Default serial lead for a classic road angel downloads

I am about to inherit a classic Road Angel from the previous owner of the 2003 WRX that I pick up tomorrow from my local dealer.

The previous owner did not supply the dealer with the serial lead for downloads, so I need a replacement. Road Angel sell the cable for £12.99 plus VAT plus p&p. However, ordinary serial leads can be bought for £2 inc p&p from ebay.

So, does it require a straight through cable or a null modem?

My logic would suggest the latter as you can also connect the road Angel to a dedicated modem, hence the RA must be a DTE. As the PC is also a DTE, then a null modem is required. Unless of course they have been nasty and used a custom pinout.

Cheers,

Graham

I'm sure someone said it was a null modem cable with a gender changer?
