Security advice needed pls - new router :-)
After a week of fighting [got nasty with my Norton blocking everything!] I have eventually united my laptop and home PC via a Netgear Modem Router.
Now the laptop runs editing software and needs to be uncluttered and simple so it isnt running anything other than an [intense] Avid editing programme on this boot. Question is, as this laptop is now on the MShome LAN and thereby connected to the internet, does it need any anti virus protection of its own? [Windows firewall is on] I dont actually surf the net or launch any browsers on the laptop but it IS connected to the internet via the LAN cable - which I use mainly only for filesharing.
I dont understand the signal paths and what does what, esp via the modem/router and how Norton talks to this, so any advice gratefully received.
Cheers

yes it should. There are plenty of vulnerabilities that don't require a browser or email.
Avira antivirus has been recommended on here as having a very small 'footprint' , or NOD32 .
don't forget to schedule your scans for when the machine is a) on and b) not in use.

Would another option be to simply disconnect LAN when not transferring files - they usually go over in about 10 secs? Is that too risky?
Thanks for the answer - its just I really want this a clean simple boot.

Sorry no. Fundamentally if it's connected to another windows machine that's connected to the internet then it needs to have some AV.
