Dashboards for xbox
Morning all,
Finally going to get the xbox chipped, mainly to use it as a media center.
I'm guessing XBMC would be a pretty good replacement dashboard, does anyone happen to know what the latest version is and where to get hold of it *cough email me it? *cough*
What are the other dashboards like, for example EvolutionX? I assume most if not all dashboards will work with the Xecutre 3CE modchip?
Thanks for any info

Hi Markus,
I went with XBMC as the dashboard. It has the option to launch other applications too.
I got it as part of the Auto-Installer Deluxe v3.0 package (with 3.04 update package). It's probably a few revisions behind latest, and I haven't got around to updating it yet (it works fine!). I found torrents to be the best bet for sourcing it.

I started with Avalaunch from the Slayer's install disk, and had XBMC as an app. However, once I found out it could be used as the dashboard I promptly switched to XBMC. Still have avalaunch on there which is pretty good, but as I want it as a media centre, have stuck with XBMC as default. As Richard, says, do a trawl on the web and you should find a version. Don't know what version mine is, but it works for me

Use XBMC as your dash.
Latest compliled release is.
Fri, 22 Dec 2006 00:00:00 +0100
XBMC REV 7405-SVN 2006-12-21 MC360 *MULTI2* - DRABBITS
Search on the torrent sites
You could use an auto installer disk to start with and once up and running FTP the latest version to your Xbox.

"You could use an auto installer disk to start with and once up and running FTP the latest version to your Xbox" As far as I could tell, you have to do it this way - this was my only complaint of the whole set-up (not bad considering all is freeware ); why doesn't the first 'real' BIOS you put on the xbox modchip support FTP.....would make life so much easier.

XBMC is constantly being recompiled
the new version (hadnt updated mine in over a year) is pretty good, I use Evolution X as the dashboard, just so I can launch the odd util and Mame

There is an App launcher in XBMC. I now use it as my dashboard, and it does pretty much everything the same as others, although you might have to select one or two things more in XBMC to achieve the same result. It's no real hardship though and all works pretty well
