i am also looking at the vmkfstools. will give it a go once the files are copied to the ESX server which is in the datacenter. slow link at the moment...

vmkfstools -i blahdee blahdee, should work i think ! not used it to convert a workstation to ESX file before though, depends which version of workstation you are using i think ! and which format they are in.
