You need a enthernet cable, cant remember the model No.. should be a socket on the back of the pc( bit bigger than a dail up socket ) one there then other end into the back of the xbox.Leave the modem connected to the pc,this is how you share your connection with xbox live.
Check these two,the second may have better answers for you.

it can be a pain to get it all working right if your going to network it, also the pc will have to be on while your on the xbox.
If you do network work here's the way ive done it and works fine for me.
start> connect to > Show all connetions> local area connetion > click internet protocol (tcp/ip) then click properties button then on the new pop up click use the following ip address set to
IP address: 192.168.0.10
sebnet mask 255.255.255.0
click ok
now your back on the local area network pop up click the advanced tab at the top then settings that will open the windows firewall pop up again click advanced make sure both are ticked now click the top most settings button
now you will have a list of boxes tick the following
dhcp (67)
dhcp (68)
dns
upnp (tcp)
upnp (udp)
click ok and restart
on the xbox set ip to find auto and that should get you on xbox live ( im sure theres people who know a better easyer way to do it tho )
