Default Disk Cloning Software?

I use to use Ghost 2003 to make a backup of my Hard Disk and dump an image file onto a spare disk.

I have recently built a new PC (using a SATA disk) and thought now I have got it up and running I will make a backup of the disk and save it to another disk, so away I went and installed Ghost 2003 then set the backup job to run..... rebooted the PC, it started Ghost as expected then it hung! Whatever I done it would get stuck in an endless loop and keep trying to boot to Ghost, tried booting back to windows (using the ghost menu) but still hung.

So basically I ended up re-installing windows and it screwed up the boot sector on my hard disk.

Now...... what other disk cloning software is out there, that works with SATA disks? Any free ones that do the trick?

Thanks

Ah ok, thanks.

So what version do you use then? Does it work with SATA disks or have I got to somehow load my SATA controller drivers into ghost?

I still use ghost - but have problems with some computers (not necesarily SATA)

I've recently discovered driveimageXML

It's pretty good - you can take a copy of your partition/drive while booted in Windows and save it almost anywhere. To restore, you need to boot from CD or other volume (I use BartPE) - it's very good and has worked for me when Ghost has failed.

And it's Free!
