Can't have NTL Broadband
We are moving as of 4th Jan. And we want to get a broadand provider. We currently have NTL 4mb service and we are happy (as happy you can be with NTL...lol) and would like to off stayed with them at our new house, but we can't according to the NTL guy on the phone.
NTL say Virgin.net who are partnering NTL. The service will be ADSL (down the phone line).
There is a cable line down the main road, but they have yet to vier off to the houses.
So who else can you recmoned for a GREAT adsl broadband provider.
I am a very hi usage internet user, and don't like waiting for things to d/l and has to be reliable
Whats BT's 8mb bb like? reliable
Can anyone help.

Depending on how far away from the Nearest Phone exchange, you may not get the full 8MB Broadband connection. I have the BT 8MB package, but at best I can only manage a 4MB download rate. ANother thumbs for BT. But you pay a premium for the service. Have you had a look at thinkbroadband: The UK's largest independent ADSL review site - Your guide to UK broadband Internet. ? It's a good site giving opinion on which is a good ISP to use.

They require a DP the little box adding to your ... block if you like and will only do it when demand is there

Max ADSL is great for some n woeful for many others.
The reason is usually BT, and badly congested exchanges.
I'm on max with a great ISP, but my speeds at peak times are ****e. Basically because my exchange is always heavily congested. BT are suppose to upgrade them, and they say they do. But in my case its made feckall difference. I guess the 'upgrade' was the bare minimum.
BT basically can't seem to be able to provide the infrastructure for MaxDSL connections. This problem will only get worst as more people sign up for Max.
Decent ADSL speeds at all times is a lottery to be honest.
I wish I could get cable to.

Anyway, I have been with them since I could get broadband, zero issues - not a single one! I currently get 6mb speeds and it is very good. Regular downloads between 650 and 775kbps.
The only issue I have had is my own router playing silly buggers, but no problems with BT.

i just recently switch to sky max broadband which is upto 16mb it uses a bt line but sky/easynet equipment in the exchange. Was on BT's max service previously with ZEN and although Zen were good (monthly contract) the max service was to tempremental in that 1 minute you could be downloading at 6mb the next it would drop to 3mb, it was just to random a speed.
Since I switched to Sky, I am syncing with the exchange at a slightly higher speed, but my download speeds are now much much more consistent, no traffic shaping, no download limits, 768kbps upload and £10 per month (you have to have sky tv though which wasnt a problem as we have)
I am currently in the process of moving house (closer to an exchange as well so may be able to get 16mb) so I will definately be using them again.
