o2 Dial Up Problem

o2 Dial Up Problem
Been looking at a mate's pc who has been complaining about his dial up connection into o2 not working.
Basically everytime you dial up an error message comes up saying "error 691 - access was denied as the username and/or password was invalid on the domain".
Now I have checked his account details via Broadband and I can get in without any problems. Have also rechecked his account details with him to double confirm.
Have swapped the modem out of his machine, installed another with the latest XP driver that I could find and still no joy. What I had noticed with the previous modem was that it looked as if the modem was elongating the password details, hence the card swap. Firewall is off and I have checked that the inbuilt Windows firewall is off as well.
Anyone know what's going on here and can offer a solution?
Thanks
