Default VFM CPU choice at the moment

I'm putting my christmas list together and am looking to build a new PC to replace an o/clocked XP2500.

The D805 caught my eye some months ago but I've not kept up to date with recent developments.
Is the D805 still holding its own or is a new CPU offering better bang for bucks now?

PC Pro did a CPU group test a month or two ago. They had the 805 down as better any Celeron, with the D945 at £95ish the most you should spend on a Pentium D (otherwise buy a Core 2 Duo). If you've got to get a new M/B though, then the E6300 C2D is the same sort of money.

Thanks Chris.
I'm starting afresh so will need a CPU, M/B, RAM,graphics, power and tower.

You just have to blink and it all changes.
I think its going to be an E6400 and single graphics card based in the end.
