Default computer build can someone help please

I really need to get a new pc. I am going to buy all the bits seperate because i have a friend who can build it for me.

I have at the most 500 pund to spend not including a monitor.

I want to get the bits from ebuyer unless someone knows any where else that does buy not pay later.

ebuyer.com - the UK's largest independent online retailer of computers, components, electronics, MP3 Players, cameras, televisions, DVD Players, car audio, software and more...

I have tried working out what i need but havent got a clue. If any one wants to be extra nice could they use the site and put one together then tell me what it is and how much it came to.

Thanks a lot.

I'm not extra nice, but what you would need is:

Motherboard
Processor, this needs to be compatible with the motherboard.
Memory, also will need to be compatible with the board.
a Case, with a PSU (power suply)
Hard drive (this is the storage part of the PC, so no point buying a 300GB if you don't intend on storing loads. )
Sound card/graphics card. These may be built in on the motherboard.

Thats the base unit done, the rest is up to you, keyboard, mouse, monitor etc.
With 500 to spend, you could make a very good spec PC.

thanks

then your need a dvd-rewriter too

hdd size .. depends if you plan to store loads of mp3's on the drive ..min would be 120gig

1 gig of ram

you could use a motherboard with on-board sound and vga

graphics card needs to be nothing special as your not playing games

Well I just built 2 systems for £520 (each) including operating system, vAT and shipping which included:

Intel Core2 duo e6300 (dual core 64bit 2x 1.9gig) £107
Asus P5LD2-VM DH/C micro ATX m/board with onboard gfx (its for business use so no need for a decent card) £67
Maxtor 250 gig hard disc SATAII 16meg cache £45
2x 512meg DDR2 667 Kingston ram (for dual channel - 1gig total) £69
Cheiftec Micro ATX tower case £15
600watt PSU with super noisy fan from a Flymow hovermower (thus my hovermower thread) £15
A4 tech wireless mouse £11
Cherry keyboard £10
Lite-on super-all-write DVD writer £19
90mm Case fan £3
Windows XP 64bit OEM (with free upgrade to vista business) £75

Obviously the onboard graphics aren't much cop for anything other than desktop use, so if you want better you'll need to spend 40-80 on a decent card and maybe use a cheaper motherboard without the built in graphics to offset the cost. - I only chose this as I wanted a micro ATX case and thus needed a small motherboard

rather than go the seperates route, why not look at for example, Novatech, and go for the motherboards bundle?

From there, you choose your case, additional bits (drives etc) extra RAM maybe......

I can't spec it for you, but you "cut your coat according to your cloth"!

Hope this helps
