Best free email?
I'm sick of having problems with hotmail.
Today is the last straw. I've been trying for ages, but just get the busy serverscreen.
So.... what's the best free POP3 email service out there? One that I could also use from work would be good (it blocks hotmail).
Cheers

I tend to agree with Jack, Gmail is pretty good. If you want an invite (though think you can just sign up for it these days) PM me with your current email address and I'll send you an invite.

As for AOL, if it's just for a free email account, it might be ok. There's no way I'd inflict any other part of AOL on anyone.

AOL is da best !
no, no, no people.......
just use AOL for emails not as an ISP!
you can get a free "screen name" (aol screen name = email username) with 2GB storage and you get 5GB online storage via Free Secure Online Storage—Xdrive.
so "impress" your mates with a AOL email address. they sure wont be bothering you with any IT problems of their own

- are you guys on commision from NOTAOL ISP? - it's always the same AOL bashers - I assume you don't use AOL yourselves
gmail is pretty dodgey from what I've heard - privacy wise
I hate threads like this cos AOL always get ripped - I've had no problem ever with AOL and feel I have to defend them - I must stop reading stuff like this
Anyway - have a nice day now... y'all

I've never run AOL, nor installed it on any of the machines I have built over the years. I've had clients ask me to install it and I've point blank refused. I have had the "joy" of having to remove it from many machines over the years, with varying degrees of success. Most of these machines are not home computers, but in businesses, so they are not full of all kinds of software, typical Office and Accounting software.
My usual method of removal is to ensure the machine is backed up and reinstall the OS and the Applications. I learnt the hard way what a complete bugger it can be to remove.
Granted I cannot knock it for ease of use, that's probably why it is still used, as if a burger munching redneck can work it out, then anyone can
As for gmail and privacy issues. This has information about privacy in gmail, ok so that might be a tiny bit baised, so have a look here

I've got to defend AOL as well.
I used it for years on dialup and never had any problems. Granted I rarly used all the featrures in the main product but I used to use the chat module loads, that's how I met the GF soon to be wife Long story.
Once you are connected just use IE. My inlaws are on AOL broadband now and they love it. The router is always connected to the web so you never need to open the program to get tinterweb access. If you want to check your e-mail, either open the program or go to aol.com and check it there.
anyway, gmail is prob the best.

told the neighbour not to rinstall, and put a free, browser/ mail client and new dial up account on...
3 days later he brought it back...fubarred......

Make me laugh these type of threads - See loads of these on Scoobynet ! Certain group that defend / like product A and those that cant stand product A.
Ask those who like product A if they have ever looked or tried product B, and I'm guessing 70% of them have never looked at another product and have no / v little knowledge / experiace of anything but product A and have got used to their way of working.
Those that dont like product A I feel have generally looked around / played / experiances with few different products and can give good reasons why they dont like product A and for example like product B better.
Just my feelings / obersvations
