Default NTL Broadband home network

trying to set up someones ntl bb. Want to be able to connect the pc & laptop via the cable modem to the internet. The pc is connected via ethernet so can the laptop be connected by usb & get BB at the same time, or is a router required? Is a fixed ip address required in the modem &/or router?

You're best off getting a router imo. I think you can do internet connection sharing via usb, but it's a pain in the bum.

With a router, you just connect the router to the modem, then conenct the machines to to router. Give them all dynamic ips and it should all just work.

I think he means, can the laptop be plugged into the cable modem USB slot when the PC is already in the Ethernet slot. I think the answer is no. It is possible it *might* work but not both at the same time...
I would just go and get something like a 'Wireless-G Broadband Router' like a WRT54G from Linksys, has 4 ethernet ports and wireless, wasn't very much.
Make sure you get the right sort though, an ADSL one won't work.
