Default Tomtom 5 Free (POI - Point of interest)

I got given a nice little webpage with lots of FREE POI / Point of interest if you are running Tomtom Navigator and I thought I’ll share it.

Download Free Single POI Files - free tomtom POI downloads

This is just some of the POI:

1) UK Shell Petrol Station’s
2) UK BP Petrol Station’s
3) UK Esso Petrol Station’s
4) UK Texaco Petrol Station’s
5) Tesco / Morrison’s / Sainsbury’s
6) UK Motorway Services

Loads more – 4 Pages of POI - 40 POI to pick from.

If your like me and only like putting Shell fuel (V-Power) into the car you can always find a Shell Petrol station using your Tomtom.

Instructions: To install and use your new TomTom POI's
------------------------------------------------------
Unzip the file you have downloaded

Remove the .ov2 file and the .bmp file.

Copy these two files into the directory on your Tom Tom that has the name of the map area you use;

In Western European TomTom (500 & 700) this is called : Western_Europe-Map In UK Tom Tom's (300 etc) this is called : Great Britain
This will vary for the above for other European countries (use the applicable name)

To verify that you have the correct directory, it should contain the file poi.dat (a propriety file used to hold the current POI lists you have).

Do not alter, copy or overwrite this file, we only mention it by name here so you can identfy
the correct directory.

Once you have copied both of the files into the directory, simply re-start the Tom Tom

You will now be able to turn on the new POI type in the preferences - e.g. "Petrol Stations"

I hope some of you find this useful

Thanks for the help with the download Daniel. It's nice to see all those Shell icons all over the map now when I am out & about.

When I get time I will spot check some of the data & cross reference it with the Shell data base just to see how accurate it is.

Daniel mentions Tomtom 700 in his instructions so it should work.
