Default Windows Media Centre 2005

Im wanting to stream media to my xbox360 and understand the only way of doing this is using WMC2005. Can i just install this over windows XP. Im not going to lose any data etc am I? Hows the best way of setting all this up?

Not sure how stable it'll be if you install it over normal XP. It's always better to do a fresh install. How about partitioning your existing HD and doing a fresh install of Media Centre on that? Or better (and easier) buy a new HD and install it on there, then you'll have the option of either.

You can only do a fresh install of media center (no upgrades).

Is there any other way (easier way) of sending stuff like video files from my PC to the xbox without this software?

You can turn your XP OS into Media Center without loosing any data using software that converts it. I did this to try the streaming out before installing Media Center from scratch.

As said though, it is preferrable to do a clean install.

That's not supported by Microsoft though. Who knows what could go wrong...

Nothing when I tried it. Just back up your important stuff beforehand!

Thanks
Once you have it all set up, you won't be able to stream divx without a work around either.

If you do a search for x360 and divx playback/streaming, there is loads of stuff out there.

Just like Microsoft to do half a job

No you'll still need Media Centre before Transcode360 will work.
