Default Windows 2k3 servers in a NT4 mixed mode domain probs

Hi,

Hope someone here can help.

I am in the process of planning the upgrade to Windows 2K3 but I came across a problem. I have a NT4 domain, with a PDC on an NT4 server. Now I have a W2K3 member server, just a general server. Now what I want to do is add the nt4 domain group "Domain Users" to the W2K3 server so I can give them rights to a share but for some reason it won't take it even though, the W2K3 server is a part of the domain.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Stu

Can you see the group? when you browse the objects in the domain, ie when you click security - add and then try and browse.

What about something like authenticated users instead?

Cant think why off the top of my head, and as its a member server is not like you could be trying to do nested groups..

Hi David,

It looks like W2K3 had broken itself! I could see the domain etc etc and browse it, with domain admin credentials. Just it wouldn't let me add the group. So I removed it from the domain, ie put it into a workgroup, rebooted it, and brought it back into the domain and it all SEEMS to be working atm.

Thanks for the heads up though !

Well if you belive MS then that shouldnt matter, but we all know thats utter bollox.. MS would have you check DNS.... NT4 DNS? Yeah right.
