help needed with memory please
My computer is getting on towards 4 years old and needs new memory-i took side off and it said following on memory curently installed-
PC2100 ( CL2.5 ) 256 mb DDR-DIMM( this is whats it currently)
in a look at my motherboard book it states
i have 2 banks that can both take DDR266/DDR200 DDR DRAM Module upto a system max of 2 GB
i have another 2 banks next to them which book says they can take PC133/PC100 SDR DRAM module again upto 2gb
Which is best or cheapest ram out of them to buy now as im running XP Pro and guess i could do with upping my ram to at least 512?

I would have thought the DDR Ram would be cheapest as not many companies make SD Ram in quantities any more.. DDR is better of the 2 anyway.
You cannot normally mix different ram technologies and run them at the same time.
2 banks, I'm assuming 2 banks of 1 slots (2 slots total for DDR) You can mix the ram density (different size in each slot if needed).
You need to look for 184pin DDR Ram (not DDR2), non ECC, unbuffered and which is rated at PC2100 (aka 266) or more. Pick whichever is the cheapest as it wont run much quicker. Oh yeah, I assuming it is a desktop that doesn't use laptop sized so-dimms which are smaller but 200 pins.
A starting place would be here to look for ram.

Seconded. DDR RAM is the best to get hold of. It's pretty cheap now-a-days due to DDR2 that is currently out for the newer PCs. If it was me I would max out and get 2 x 1GB sticks. I take it you run Windows XP? If so, then you will notice a big increase in speed with 2GB.
