Unhappy Urgent hardware help required - back last millenium computing :(

HELP - I'm reduced to running an AMD K6-350 This what I am having to use to post this question now

My K7S5A ver3.0 has served me faithfully for a long time now - it has been running as the kids games machine with 256MB DDR PC3200 and a Duron 1200 chip and a FX5700LE Graphics card

Sad tale... Now the FX5700LE is being powered by a K6-350 on an FIC PA-2013 mobo with 128MB SDRAM running Win98 in the same box so that I can post this question...

I had been testing an ABIT AN7 with the kit that was previously on my K7S5A board and even with new power supply which I thought might make the difference there was still no coaxing the unhappy AN7 into life... AT ALL

So having duly given up on that task and consigning the AN7 for scrap I set about rebuilding the K7S5A board. Only trouble is having re-assembled everything including juicey new PSU & some extra DDR RAM I couldn't get it to fire up properly. The PSU fired up, the fan on the CPU went into action, hard drives chuntered but nothing happened on the monitor - just flashing orange light. The FX5700LE card has a fan on it which was not activated so I tried another graphics card FX5200 but same result with that.

I have tried a minmal system setup with board out of the box - but nothing will induce the graphics to leap into action...

Any ideas? - I'm really stumped here

Thanks

Mick

Sounds like the motherboard has been shorted out at some point.

You don't have any extra brass female screws in the case that short any parts of the motherboard by any chance ?

Have you tried popping the battery out and shorting the pins to reset the bios ?

Unhappy

Thanks for the reply...

No - no extra female screws in the case I made sure they all lined up with screw holes before I put the board back in.

I have also reset the BIOS but it didn't seem to make any difference.

With the fan not running on the FX5700LE card it looks as though there may be a problem to the power supply on the graphics card - but I know the card itself is alright and also another good card also had the same problems in that machine

Aaaaaaaaggggghhhhhhh

Cheers

Like lightning says check to make sure nothing is shorted. It could be that the AGP slot is fubarred.
You could be in luck though as I happen to have 2 mobo and cpu combinations for sale at this present time, both of which are better than what you have currently, and are relatively cheap, let me know if your interested.

Thumbs up

always interested in a bargain mate - I do have to get these things past my 'financial controller' though...

Current main machine is -ABIT- AN7 v1.0 MoBo|Athlon XP2400+|OC'd at 2250MHz (15x150)|Maxtor 200GB 6L200M0 SATA|Corsair XMS 3200XL Pro Memory 2x512MB 2,2,2,5|MSI GeForce FX 5200 128 Mb Personal Cinema|LG GCC-4320B DVD/CDRW|Arctic Cooler -Copper Silent 2L|Antec True Blue 480W PSU|4x USB 2.0 card.

Kids machine is ECS K7S5A mobo|Duron 1200|Maxtor 80GB |Crucial CP3200 Memory 2x512MB|Sparkle GeForce FX5700LE 128 Mb|Philips DVD/CDRW|CTW 400W PSU. - when it's running

Any bargain bits for a screaming improvement will be carefully considered

Cheers

I have an Asus a7ne deluxe nforce 2 mobo (reckoned to be the best nforce 2 mobo) with an xp2500 oc to xp3200 with heatsink and fan. Is supplied with 512mb (2x256 matched Geil memory PC3200), Looking for £50 for it, or for £180 you can have a MSI K8n Diamond SLI mobo(nforce 4), with a 64bit AMD 3200 processor and 1gb of ram (4x256mb Kingmax 3500 Turbo runs perfectly in dual channel mode), again has heatsink and fan, and also a gigabyte geforce 6600gt 128mb silent graphics card. Cables are supplied and things are boxed as well (however dont know if things will fit in the boxes with the processors and heatsinks attached), there is a game with the graphic card as well (cant remember what its called)
