Question Is my DVD drive knackered? Please help.

Hello ScoobyNet and good morning.
I have just come to install trainz virtual railway on my laptop. opened the drive, took the dvd out which had been left in (can this damage a drive?) put cd in and no autoplay, so, Start>run>E:\launcher.exe> please insert a disk into drive E. So I opened my computer, it knows there isa cd in there but it does not see any information on it, so I put a dvd in, and a music cd, but still no hope - is my drive knackered??

all opinions and help VERY welcome, thanks guys.

Scott.

Ps. it is an Asus A6U laptop, already been for repair once for a new keybored and a for switching off when a little pressure was applied underneath, but these problems were from new.

Yea, but you know when you put for example a game in, it knows what it is, i.e like is might show up the logo of that game, or the logo of a music cd, all this does is show up the standard logo as if it were a blank cd, and shows no data on it.

Just give the lens a clean, it could be as simple as a bit of dust/dirt gettin in there. Use a CD/DVD Rom lens cleaner disc with the brushes on.
