Default Counterfeit windows wtf!

Windows has just downloaded an update and now it keeps coming up saying I may have a Counterfeit copy of windows. This copy came pre installed when I bought the pc back in 2005 from pc world, and every previous update has been fine. So guessing they have not sold me a shoddy copy. anyone have any ideas

"Counterfeit windows wtf!"

Shouldnt this be:

"PC World wtf!" ?

Give 'em a ring in the morning, tell em to sort it or you'll shop 'em for selling counterfit goods.

No, it's part of the new patching/update process, it validates you first.
Do a google for Windows Genuine Advantage

had a few customers who this has happened too.

they have proper copies of xp which only now seem to have this problem.

i have noticed though they all seem to be windows xp which have been updated with sp2, dont know if its a coincidence?

Hello

Well, with the latest update (actually about a month ago) Microsoft banned a whole new range of keys that were used to install dodgy copies of Windows.

If VALID versions of Windows are being shown as invalid then that key usually had 'leaked' onto the internet somehow and Microsoft had decided it is dodgy.

If you have a legal copy, try downloading this and extract the files over the top of the existing ones in the windows system32 directory

Had to do this in the end. Thought it was orted the other week when i managed to verify it on their website but it popped again Microsoft were ******* useless and seemed more interested in selling me another key than helping me out. Instead of contacting pc world.used the hack
