Question Why does my laptop cursor keep jumping when typing?

I've got a one year old Toshiba Equium laptop and when I type the cursor keeps jumping back to a previous position in the text I've just typed. It's already done it twice whilst I've been typing this!

For example I typed "I've got a one year old Toshib" and then I typed the 'a' of Toshiba and it appeared between the 'o' and 't' of 'got'.

It does it all the time and is so frustating, in fact it just did it again whilst typing this, this is how is came out:

e and
It does it all the ti

Please help me before it gets hurled out of the window

Cheers

Sal

this used to happen to me and annoyed me just as much till I discovered why!!

If it's what was happening to me, your touchpad is being triggered when you type and that is moving the cursor. Some are more sensitive than others, and don't even need to be touched, proximity is enough. I now use an external mouse and have disabled the touchpad in the device manager - problem solved, but it does mean you need an external mouse all the time.

Alex you are a genius and have just saved the life of a poor wee laptop I've disabled the touch pad and it works brilliantly now. Do you know I've been struggling on with this for a year now?

I always use an external mouse anyway, it's teeny tiny and lights up in all different colours

I do, but still don't like it compared to a mouse. Also on my laptop I can't enable that and disable the touchpad... :-(
