Setting up a Wireless Home Network
Starting again to see if it makes sense
Need help chaps
I am trying to set up a wireless home network
I have :-
1x Main PC
1x Laptop
1x Xbox 360
First of all i want to connect the PC & 360 so i can stream music to the 360 (i have over 10k songs on my hard drive) Also mainly so i can listen to the music via the surround sound thats hooked upto the 360. I want to do this wirelessly.
How can it be done ?? I have router & i access Xbox live via the wireless card on the 360
I also want to connect the laptop to the main pc so it can access the songs as well ??
Laptop connects via wireless to the internet ?? So how can i connect this to the main PC ???
Your thoughts would be great.

all the machines would connect via the router be it wired or wireless. The former being more reliable, the latter being more convenient. Xbox360 already has a connection so thats good. For streaming im sure the PC needs to be have media center 2005 running on it. the laptop would connect to the main PC via the router (well you could do it the other way also). to connect to another pc.
Start > Run > UNC path so if the name of the laptop is home-laptop you would type \\home-laptop in the Run box.
There would need to be a share setup on the other PC with the music on for other machines to access it. Right click on folder and click "sharing and security" to share it.
With the wireless the xbox360 allows WEP and WPA encryption to be used so use WPA if your network permits for decent security and make a strong password from here

does the xbox have a wireless adapter inside already or do you have to buy it seperately?
I'm gonna be looking to do the same as the original poster soon - have 2x desktop pc's and a 360 to hook up - all in different rooms!

The firewalls were stopping it, suppose that must have been a good thing.
I got it sorted by removing the firewalls while disconnected from the phone line. Then it found it no problems. Music blaring through the surround sound as we speak
Now to get the laptop seeing the main pc
