CPU Upgrade
I've currently got a 400mhz FSB P4 2.6Ghz which I occasionally oc to 2.9for certain games and it does the job. Would I notice a huge difference if I upgraded to a Pentium D820 2.8?

For not much more you could get an Athlon 64 X2 or even the new Intel Core 2 DUO E6300.

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-150-AM)
AMD's Athlon 64 is the latest evolution in the desktop computer industry. With its revolutionary 64bit architecture this CPU is fully compatible with future 64 bit operating systems and offers blistering performance in current 32 bit applications. With AMD's new HyperTransport technology and a massive 1MB L2 cache. San Diego core incorporates SSE3 technology into the Athlon 64 platform which increases performance levels.
The Athlon 64 3700 San Diego boast amazing performance and exceptional overclockability. Now OcUK has the lowest price in the UK by miles. Only 1000 units available so get your orders in now to avoid missing out on this cracking deal.
Previously sold for £74.95 +VAT
Price: £54.95 (£64.57 Including VAT at 17.5%)
and then all you'll need is a new mobo supporting socket 939 AGP (I presume thats what you GFX card is) 6600GT. I had 2 of them running in SLi on PCI-E, ran everything perfectly!

As previously mentioned, there have been sever price-drops right across AMDs ranges.
In my opinion, the San Diego AMD Athlon64 4000+ is an absolute steal (although stocks are currently thin on the ground) at under £100 for the chip-in-a-box.
As far as I know, this particular chip is fundamentally an FX-60 that has been locked well below its capabilities so if clocking's your thing, it has excellent potential.
One of the ASUS 939-sli boards would serve you well (they tend to be most peoples weapon of choice) however if you'r budget constrains your choice, a decent offering from Gigabyte or MSI (etc) shouldn't set you back much more than £50.

Overclockers has 4000X for a mite over £80 for the OEM option. Might get one myself at that price.
Shouldn't be too hard to clock it to 3ghz.
I have a DFI Ultra mobo thats been modded to accept SLI so cheaper to buy initially.
