Just wondering if there's anything to stop the likes of ATI and Nvidia following Intel and AMD's thinking and instead, produce dual core graphics cards ?

Quad Core Quad SLI anyone ?

Also Dell and some other manufacturers actual sell a spec of PC with 2 of these in. But Nvidia will not allow us mere mortals to set one up on our own rigs.

checked those links, but isn't that just two graphics boards with a common external interface between them ?

I assumed they'd build a single dual core chip sharing one lot of memory on a single board?

You could argue GFX adaptors have been multi-core for years Got lots of parallel processing on them.

They've not quite got it down to one physical processor yet.. but the 7950 is a dual processor GPU, rather than dual core.

yeah, I was wondering specifically about dual core - space saving, energy saving, cost saving, performance consideratuions, not to mention quad core and onwards, etc...

I really wish they'd sorted it on a single PCB with a 7800GTX 512 esk cooler.. the whiney little 7900GT coolers just don't cut it at this time of year, even in a Tt Shark with side 120mm fan a-blowin'... I mean when I've got two of these monsters in there, may as well get 12 inch desk fan n slap it on the side of the case!
