Default Client database software?

I have used ACt! for years for client data and wondered if anything else is out there? (not looked into the market for this in years)

I need to be able to have a client record that ties neatly with any diary dates scheduled for that client and an easy way to produce letters and mailings to those clients.

I was hoping Outlook Business Contacts 2007 may have that stuff but doent look like it.

we used "Goldmine" for our sales chaps.

Quite expensive - but a very niche tool

ACT! and goldmine are the most popular you then step up price wise to something Like AccPac CRM (Now Sage CRM MME)
