Using PDA to test wireless

Using PDA to test wireless
I am currently trying to improve the wireless signal around the large racking area of our factory.
We now have a number of access points, but i have nothing to test the signal strength of the wireless connection. The app we use to take stock has a simple text signal checker. Simply reads Offline, Low, High, Excellent.
This however isn't very reliable.
I am wondering if there is any "Free" software around which i can stick on a wireless ready PDA and go for a wander around the factory checking for blackspots?
I have to admit i'm not brilliant with wireless networks, please could someone answer the seemingly simple following question.
As a wireless client is moving around will it look in real time for better AP's or does it exhaust the connection from one AP and then go for a looksie for
another AP?
If so can anything be configured for the client to always be looking for stronger signalled AP's?
Any help on the above would be great
Thanks
Tim

My PDA (HW6516 with SD WiFi) has a comprehensive signal strength indicator included.....
Never heard wireless "checking" software - but then again, I haven't heard of much!!
Will watch this with interest

I use a few different ones on my PDA
Its pretty good, one of the Netstumbler (or ministumbler) i think will go and check if you can get internet through it too (quite handy for neighbours houses )
Another one I use will show all access points that it can see, with a scrolling bar graph display that works in real time showing signal strength and black spot areas
The company I work do do massive amounts of work with Wireless, Microwave, Radio, Satellite etc, we just put a 100Mb feed on Winter Hill on the mast
Ill try and find the software we use

Is your Wireless switched on on the PDA (daft question I know, but mine switches off every now and then)
AFAIK the Wireless client will exhuast that connection then find another one
You can set the wireless connection as default so it will always try that one first

Righty, Figured it out so it's now working.
Had wireless zero config disabled on the PDA.
The ap is pretty good only had a quick look at it, and sat in the office it detects all of the AP's in close proximity.
Next phase is the factory test, I've found a couple of other little applications which do similar things!
