I dont have the time to be running round fixing it i have work to do i just want it to work for once its no fun being sat at a normal computer instead of being tucked up in bed on my laptop

I've had a Netgear for almost 2 years, never failed me. Netgear are expensive, I'd recommend a Linksys. Rock solid kits from Cisco Systems and well priced. D-Link arent bad either.
Belkin routers have suffered from dropping the internet signal for a while, its a manufacturing problem Belkin are aware of and they made that info publicly available. Not sure if they have sorted by now. The only way to cure it was to switch the router off and back on again.

Yes Belkin routers aint that good to be honest, echo above comments about linksys i've configured a few for people and haven't heard back since....always a good sign, got one as a backup router too and was easy as pie to set up. My draytek was a great piece of kit also, to be honest most other makes (including netgear) would be a better bet than belkin

If you buy from PCworld, use the Collect At Store thing on their website, will save you some pennies

You need a Cable / DSL Router for Telewest, dont buy a Telephone Line / ADSL one, it wont work.

Another vote for Netgear here. Took 5 mins to get up and running (My old Belkin took 2 years and never made it), and haven't had a problem yet

Belkin, linksys, netgear, D-link are all fine, the problem is usually the user who knows F'all and decides to fiddle with the settings in an attempt to squeeze an extra 2 bps out of it.

Well, I've gone through 2 Linksys routers, a Belkin, and now my D-Link is going wrong. All in the space of 3 years. I do know what I'm doing, and I've not fiddled with them at all except for setting up the firewall and wireless settings when I first got them.

These are all quite cheap devices compared to some of the routers on the market, so I'm beginning to wonder if this is a case of "you get what you pay for"...

if all those have failed, draytek may be your next port of call unless you want to spend a packet on a cisco 87x series

Draytek is indeed the next one on the list. Will have to wait until after my summer holiday though. Saving all my pennies for the trip at the moment

And my Belkin router and netgear hubs just keep on plodding along never missing a beat. The hubs are over 10 years old now. Maybe you're just cursed
