New PC time

New PC time
Got a nice little bonus from work. Decided to treat myself and get a new PC.
My HDD's are fine.
Need new CPU, motherboard and Graphics card.
Thinking about £200 for a processer and the AMD X2 Athlon 64 3800+ takes my fancy. Its 2G but can be overclocked to 2.6 and runs stable. I was looking at 939 pin but found the same chip with 940 pin. Is there a difference? Any other Processors I should look at?
Not sure on Motherboard, any suggestion? Been fan of Asus (Been using them years and never had a problem/issue)
Thinking again, £200 for a graphics card and the XFX Geforce 7800 GTX looks good. Any other suggestions?
Is this a good time to buy? or should I wait a month or 2.
Thanks

Wait and get the new Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processor.
Better value & better performance than the X2.
Also, the 7800GTX has been replaced with the 7900.
You will pick up a very nice 7900GT for £200.

If you wait with PC's you'll wait forever, there is always something better on the horizon.
TBH, unless you are a really hard core gamer or in to serious CAD then you are going to struggle to max out a current high end bit of kit.
I'm running and AMD 64 x2 4200+ and it does just fine running XP pro and a number of virtual servers. If you can - get a SATA Raid set up on the HD side of things plus as much RAM as you can afford.

get a sandiego core 64 4000+ and then overclock the bugger to 2.6 as i have done its better for games! only paid £160 off ebay! then a 7800 gtx performs just aswell as a 7900 gt but overclock the 7800 and it will be just as fast nearly only paid £150 off ebay aswell!!

I agree with Daz, wait a month or 2 for the conroe if you can stretch to it. It trounces an FX66 or 66 cant remember which, there is another thread on here detailing the cost (think it is £240+), run that with a 7900gt or equivalent ati. You will need new memory though as well as a mobo but should be more than capable for years to come

I'd go for one step down from what's currently topend, if it's still the same, you'll get better bang for buck that way.
