Default GP2X development

Ok chaps, for those of you with the GP2X, what's the best dev toolkit to get and use. I've not looked into this side in detail yet, but seeing as though some of you would have done the donkey work already, thought I'd just ask.

I'm used to C++ development (about 12 years) both unix and windows, so don't mind using an IDE or not, would just like one that is best to use overall (ease of use, features, setup, environment, etc.). Also don't mind what OS it needs to be developed on, although I've not yet got round to installing my Fedora setup on my second disk, but Windows on main disk is useable.

Ta

I found a nice zip file (about 81mb) with the full gp2x dev kit with SDL and Devc++. Tried it, and managed to get a hello world working yesterday evening. Seems quite straightforward.

I'll see if I can find the url for you...

Edited to add url

http://www.gamedev.net/community/for...opic_id=397381

Just compile the code on windows, then copy the gpe file over to the gp2x...

Iain,

I think fenix the quickest and easiest to use. You get an IDE just have to install a small runtime on the unit and you're away.

(Still putting mine on ebay I think!)

Fenix is a breeze hanslow. You can get an app running in minutes plus it has a little emulator (doesnt emulate the gp2x) but does display a 320x240 window so you can test and debug your apps. Check out http://fenixonfire.gp32x.de/ for sample apps and tutorials and d/l the fenix stuff from the files download area off of gp2x.co.uk

Looked at Fenix, but I've got a lot of c & sdl stuff that I want to try, so I'm trying that route first

Having looked at both (albeit briefly) I'm going to go down the route of the SDK I think rather than Fenix as the C look and feel wins me over big time. Should be alright if it gets into nitty gritty coding, as unix dev is just as bad

Have spent all morning wrestling with getting my wireless working on Fedora v5 but got there in the end Will have to get the Linux devkit installed on here now
