My 360 died, is yours horizontal or vertical?
As the title says, my 360 died the other day and have now got it replaced at Game, although mine is in a well ventilated area it does get bloody hot, do you think it makes a difference if its laying down or upright ?
Ive seen an intercooler you can get that plugs onto the back of the 360 to aid cooling and this seems like a good idea to me, what do you think ?

Mine horizontal in a fairly well ventilated TV stand. It's quite loud when a disc is in it and the @rse end does get quite warm. Only twice now have I had a problem where it couldnt read a disc for whatever reason M$ come up with.
But so far it's behaved quite well.

Is that a front mounted intercooler or a top mount.
Wot things comming to intecoolers for game consoles.
You would have thought they would have designed it better with its price tag.

I found a review somewhere about the intercooler and it says because the 360 is so noisy you will hardly notice the extra noise !

So so so so many stories about 360's clapping out, bit of a worry really.

All in all the 360 is working great, it's just that the only press people see is negative points, after all you're not going to post of a forum "today I switched my 360 on and it worked great"

Save judgement for after Sony's first couple of months trading and lets see if they have any problems.
One thing i did read, albeit it I may have read serveral articles and merged them in to 1 in my head ) is that IBM have developed a thinner layer (or who ever is currently manufacturing the next phase of 360's chips ) for the silicone in the cpu, which should mean less heat will be generated. This is also a cheaper process hence will help lowering the prices of the next revision of the 360 hardware.

I have seen an unreal amount of "my 360 is broken" posts on here
My PS1/PS2/XBOX1 have worked with no problems for years, so its worrying to say the least, and people, please stop with the "Sony are best" "MS are best" arguments, its very boring
Its like a school yard argument sometimes in here with the MS and SOny fan boys bickering with each other, just give both machine a chance, the best will win out.
Me, i'm waiting to compare both machines before buying one!!

I suppose at the end of the day, a "flawless" system is pretty hard to ask for. It *shouldn't* be but, then, given it's running M$ OS and that it's a new, very complicated piece of kit, invariably faults, corruptions and failures are bound to occur.
I've always been a bit wary of console that use CD/DVDs and can be used "standing up" - I was never comfortable with how the "discs" felt as they rested in the tray on their sides as opposed to a horizontal load. To me it just seemed more prone to problem/mishap as gravity is counteracting the desired effect of having the middle of the disc clamped in place by the drive's spinning mech - at least when you're "loading" the disc into the system - once it's in it should be fine..
But hey - that's just me. The guy who fuct up 6 PS1's in a row when he was "learning" how to solder mod chips back in 1996

Strange that. My dashboard has never locked up as far as I can remember. Is it a PGR realted thing? I played it for about a fortnight at launch, and haven't really touched it since (got bored with it) so perhaps I haven't exposed the bug...

I'd ring MS if I were you messiah. My 2nd xbox kept hanging all over the place, (no red lights or anything), which is why I rang them and they replaced it for me. The 3rd one has been working fine so far (touch wood)....

Its only since the major update the other week - I can live it really and I cant be bothered ringing MS anyway - the support line is a joke, they accused me od deliberatly damaging a disc so I could replace it with a different game - WTF? I've already spoken to them about it anyway when I rang about my 2nd corrupted profile - the muppet didnt know there had been a dashboard update...
My dash hangs whatever the game is ever since the update. When I get a "??? is online" or "??? wants to play" I have to wait until the little blurb disappears off screen before I can bring the dashboard up. It also means I have to wait until the blurbs go before switching the dashboard off or it still hangs...

According to Britxbox.co.uk, a source close to Microsoft has confirmed plans to cut the cost of Xbox 360 as the holidays roll around, and more importantly, just as Sony unleashes the PlayStation 3. The source told Britxbox that the price cut [core below £200 (currently £209), premium £220 (currently £279)] would be the result of a "new" and "cheaper to manufacture" version of Xbox 360, suggesting that the Xbox team is working to redesign elements of the chip set supplied by ATI and IBM to achieve more cost effective production.
