Default Installing ATI 9700 pro

i have bought a cheap refurbished 9700 pro as a last upgrade to my system before i rip the whole lot out next year and start again

i currently have an overclocked geforce fx5600 xt installed.

how do i go about installing this ATI card.
do i have to remove all the nvidia drivers and stuff before the card is swapped? or does it not matter?

the pc is used mainly for my work stuff, and
"live for speed" with the odd game of UT2003 so it should do me fine until next year

remove all the nvidia drivers via the Control Panel --> Add remove Programs icon and find your nvidia drivers and click the "remove" button.

If you're not convinced they're all removed, there are tools like "Driver Cleaner" (I think it's called) that will remove *all* references to the driver type but I'm often a bit worried about how much "Nvidia" it will remove, especially if you have Nforce drivers installed.

After than, just download the latest ATI Catalyst drivers and presto - yer good to go!

Should be pretty straightforward.

StickyMicky - if you have a NForce motherboard you may need to be careful which Nvidia drivers you remove. If it's anything like the NF4 drivers, they integrate with the Display driver - but you'll be presented with a set of tick boxes - only ticket the display driver...

Common sense I know... but just to give you a heads up.

Make sure you have the ATi drivers to hand. Also be aware that some Nvidia Boards and Ati add-on cards can have issues.

tried playing a little with the clock freq`s last night, the omega drivers have a tool that is called "auto overclocking" which slowly increases the clocks while testing for artifacts.

this card does not want to increase much, if at all, small black artifacts appeared in next to no time at all.

tbh i think i will just leave it alone, seams to do the job well enough for the little cost involved

a little less then what you wanted and it was deliverd as well

sorry steve, i could not hang about, needed it asap!
a bit of research told me you can softmod them to 9800 pro spec, although i would rather just overclock it a little and save all the hassle
