Default MS Access - force new record to be created in underlying table

I have a form with an underlying table

I open the form ready to key in a new record and the autonumber key field is showing (autonumber) eg. it hasn't created the record in the underlying table yet.

Is there a way to force that new record to be created before anyone has typed into the form's control boxes ?

Thanks in advance

edited to add: I need to program this to occur using the underlying VB in Access

Out of interest, why do you want this to happen?

Use the vb to save the recordset. Of course you need to ensure any primary/foreign keys etc are populated and so on.
