Default Bios set-up and CPU speed?.......

I was looking in the Bios screen set-up and noticed that my cpu type shows :AMD athlon 64 procesor 3400+ but my cpu speed shows :2200 MHZ. Now, I know very little about computers but should these speeds read the same? If they should how can I fix it? or have I got the wrong end of the stick!?

Many thanks

Nope, thats spot on.

The 3400+ refers to the performance rating. You can't compare a 3400+ running at 2.2ghz and a 2.2ghz pentium 4 as the 3400 will be nearly twice as fast and does 40% more per clock cycle than the pentium 4 and runs cooler at the same time.

AMD's speed ratings i.e 3400+ is a guide to tell you it is just as good or as better than an INTEL P4 running at 3400 Mhz (3.4Ghz).

Er - no it isn't. AMD have said repeatedly that the "XP" rating is to show how fast an Athlon Thunderbird core would have to run to have the same performance as the given processor. They very carefully made it equally clear that it was NOT a comparison with Intel, as that way law suits lie. The last time anyone tried a rating to compare between different manufacturers was the laregely discredited "P" ratings of the late nineties.

But yes, the XP3400+ runs at 2200MHz out of the box, and at least 2600MHz with a bit of tweaking.
