I use the Sygate job at the moment*, although AFAIK they no longer support the free stuff, and more and more crap seems to be getting through

Any help appreciated!

I would go with Zone Alarm. Recently aquired by Checkpoint. Checkpoint are one of the industry leaders so they must know what they are talking about and to buy Zone Alarm must mean they have confidence.

Older versions can be picked up for free and they do trials.

If running on XP. You can use the XP firewall that came with SP2. Okay not the best configurable Firewall, but it will help you out.
